Tell Your Story Tuesday...Challenge #6

You can choose the age at which to “send” the letter—it can be at 6, at 16, or at 26 (it depends on how old you are now) Choose an age at which you had a lot of choices to make, or that was hard for you. Write a letter to yourself, make a scrapbook page, write a poem, or you can even write a song about it.

I actually decided to scrapbook this and thought it might be fun actually to scrapbook this entire challenge.  So I'll update the last 5 as I get those pages done, make sure to check back for that.

If you could write a letter and send it to yourself when you were younger, what would you say?

Dear 18 Year Old Me,

Don’t be in such a hurry to grow up.  It’s really not as exciting as you think it will be.  Along with all that “freedom” you can’t wait to get, comes a LOT of responsibility that you’ll wish you didn’t have!

Be confident in who you are.  You are stronger than you know, and don’t need anyone else to validate you.  You are fearfully and wonderfully made!

Don’t sweat the small stuff, pick your battles.  And don’t lose hope in times of trouble, God won’t bring you more than He can handle.  Trust Him.  You WILL make it through and then wonder later why you thought it was so hard to begin with.

Don’t be so insecure about your looks.  Beauty really is skin deep, a beautiful heart radiates from within.  Besides there are and will be plenty of people that think you’re beautiful just as you, and the rest have bad taste! ;-)

Try to be more intentional about your walk with God.  And don’t be in such a hurry to make big decisions, consult Him in all things, He really does know you better than you know yourself, and what is best for you.

Stay true to your values and don’t ever compromise.

Always remember Boys are Dumb!  Although you’ll find a few you really like, that are actually pretty good guys, they’re ALL still dumb.  Some just to differing degrees, but Boys are Dumb.

Speaking of boys, don’t worry there is one out there that has already been hand-picked for you.  Be patient.  He’s AMAZING….but yes still dumb sometimes! ;-)

DON’T use credit, if you can help it!  Save up and pay cash, if you can’t afford it, you don’t really need it.  Debt is Dumb!  Dumber than boys even!

Remember to tell people you love them, don’t always assume they know.

You may not always have everything you “want” but you will be blessed beyond what you can imagine now and will have everything you “need.”

Love,
Me

Tell Your Story Tuesday...Challenge #1

This is not an original idea, but I found another blog that someone was telling "their story' with random "get to know me" type questions.

What better way to get to know someone, than by asking basic, goofy questions that reveal a little bit of how their mind works and the things they like.  This is me.

I challenge you to tag up and play along.  This week's prompt:

If you were forced to go back in time to the olden days, but were allowed to take 10 modern conveniences with you, what would you take?

I Couldn't Live Without

1.  A camera - Of course to preserve the memories and the history of the time and evolution of society as it caught back up to today

2.  Indoor plumbing - I'm sorry but I am NOT about to have to trudge out in the snow or rain, or have to worry about cleaning a septic tank or the smell around a hole in the ground.  I want my warm padded seat, extra soft toilet paper, and a loud flush that just takes it away like magic and I never have to even think about it!  It also needs to include clean filtered water for my shower, just sayin'

3.  A Refrigerator - Hello!  I've read the stories where they had to store things in a basement or couldn't have certain things during certain times of the year, and I don't even like warm milk!  Plus I live in Texas, we have that clay soil that can't support a basement and bipolar weather.  I feel like I'd starve to death.

4. An Oven - So yes I want a fridge, and of course I need to be able to COOK it!  I love to cook, as evidenced by my recipes all over my blog.  I don't want to limited to having to start a fire in the fireplace and what I can cook in a pot or roast.  How did they make cookies back then??

5.  Central Heat and Air - I mentioned I live in Texas right?  Can you even imagine not having conditioning in August when the temps soar over 100* for several days in a row?  or no heat on the weekend (like this past one) where after a beautiful 80* sunny day, and we get a freak ice storm that shuts down the city for 3 days??  No thanks!  I need climate control.

6.  Internet - How else would I share my story with you guys?  And you know honestly I can do without TV if I have to, but the internet these days is the "information super highway".  Kids these days have never even heard of an encyclopedia.  Google has actually become an official verb in the dictionary.  And you know what, I'm guilty too.....if I don't know something....GOOGLE IT!

7.  Contacts - I am blind as a bat without my contacts.  Seriously.  I cannot see more than about 4 inches in front of my face, and my coke bottle glasses have to be so small to focus my vision that they give me absolutely no peripheral vision....and yes I'm vain!

8.  Lip Balm - OMGsh.  I think I'm addicted or something. This winter I have had the WORST chapped lips.  I have never had such a problem and none of my regular stuff is even helping.  It's AWEFUL.  The only thing that seems to is the Vaseline Lip Therapy.  I'm hoping that when Spring finally gets here it'll help.  It's just NEVER been this bad...every! :-/

9.  My Car - I just can't even imagine having to take a horse and buggy all the way from my neck of the woods to the ballpark!  I'd have to take like 2 days off work for every game! Oh wait, that doesn't sound all that bad actually....oh but then there's that central heat and air thing again.  Nevermind!

10.  Cell Phone - I know, I know.  Pathetic,  I was really trying to avoid using this one, but you know....I would honestly be lost without it.  It's like my connection to the world.  I am totally that person that walks around patting her butt to make sure she didn't leave it somewhere, and everytime I don't have it (because it's actually in my purse) my pulse quickens and I panic a little.  Ugh pathetic.

Gee....I guess I may be a little more spoiled than I realized.  What's your story?  What would you bring?

My scrapbooking saga…

I spent some time this weekend doing a little scrapbooking. Here is my scrapbooking saga…

I have two AVON boxes full of old pictures that I never did anything with. I’ve had these grand plans for years to scrapbook everything, but I just never made the time to do it. I had a friend about 7 years ago that sold Creative Memories, so I went to a party, got all excited and bought a bunch of stuff that sat in a drawer for 2 years. All I had to show for it was the double page spread I made at her party.

First Pages (assembled around 2000)

Then another friend invited me to a Stampin’ Up party, I got inspired all over again, spent some money and bought some more stuff for my ‘drawer’. Finally a couple of years later a lady at church invited me to another Stampin’ Up party. I guess the time was right, 3rd time was charm, whatever… Yes, I spent more money, but this time I hosted a party. I got a bunch of stuff free and was on my way. I even pulled the old stuff out of the drawer. I got so addicted, I signed up to be a demonstrator just to get the discount and “support my habit”.

I made some scrapbooks for friends and my sister for baby shower gifts but kind of slowed down on my own pages. Then I started getting more into making cards, and name frames, and candles, and notepads, and all kinds of crafty stuff. I make all of my own greeting cards now, have participated in some swaps and even have a monthly Stamp Club group that helps me stay active.

So anyway…I spent some time this weekend sorting through my boxes of old photos and making a few pages. I did some current pages, and some catch up pages of my older photos. I’ve gone from VERY basic (as you saw above), to elaborate with lots of embellishments and am trying to tone that down a little more and find my groove. I also recently read a book by Rebecca Cooper called Real. Life. Scrapbooking. (fabulous MUST read book) that has gotten me inspired to record more everyday stuff so others will know our ‘real life’ and not just our ‘events’.

Big Sister…Little Sister
This page is using some older photos when my youngest (who is now 8, almost 9) was first born. See how behind I am???

Toothless Grin
This one isn’t so old. I think it may be about a year or so ago…

Blue’s Clues
Another oldie….from 2001 (I don’t scrap in order either by the way…)

BFF
OK – this one is current. This is my DD Lauren and her best friend Brooke. They took these themselves just a couple of months ago and I just found them on my camera.

Snaggle Tooth
Another toothless grin page of Kaylee. This one I found as a card sketch and adapted it into my scrapbook.

On Safari
This is another batch of old photos I never did anything with. This is Lauren (now 11; then 2) and my niece Katy who is 2 weeks older than her.

So…that’s current. I’ll save some more stuff for future posts. Thanks for looking!
